LB Seventy years is an extraordinary legacy. When reflecting on Orloff Jewelers’ journey, what emotions and memories come to the forefront?
OJ Pride and gratitude come to mind first—pride in building a 70-year legacy in an industry where that’s rare, and deep gratitude for our loyal customers. As a third-generation business, we know firsthand that hard work and honesty is everything. We’ve grown alongside our community, celebrating life’s biggest moments together. It’s been a wonderful journey with wonderful people, and we’re honored to carry it forward.

LB Can you take us back to the founding of Orloff Jewelers and what inspired the first generation to start this journey?
OJ Founded in 1955 by Paul Orloff, the business has evolved through generations while staying rooted in family and community. From Tulare Street to Fulton Mall, Manchester Center, and now Fig Garden Village, each move marked growth and reinvention. In 1990, James and Mary Ann Orloff continued the legacy, rebranding as Orloff Jewelers. Today, third-generation jeweler Maxwell Orloff is poised to lead the company into its next chapter with fresh vision and deep respect for its heritage.

LB Three generations of family ownership is rare in any industry, especially luxury retail. How has that shaped the brand’s identity over the decades?
OJ Three generations of family ownership have shaped Orloff Jewelers into a brand built on trust, good communication, and a strong family foundation. Our longevity comes from blending wisdom earned over decades with the innovation and energy of the next generation. This balance ensures we stay connected to our roots while evolving to meet the needs of today’s luxury customers. It’s a legacy where tradition meets forward-thinking, and every decision is guided by purpose, care, and family values.

LB In an era of trends and technology, how does Orloff stay true to its heritage while evolving with modern tastes and expectations?
OJ At Orloff Jewelers, we believe sustainable growth starts from within. By investing in education, mentorship, and transparent communication, we honor our heritage while evolving with modern tastes. We foster a culture of honesty, collaboration, and continuous learning, where every team member feels empowered and aligned. With the right advisors and a united team, we stay rooted in integrity and tradition—while building a future that reflects today’s values and tomorrow’s vision. It truly takes a village.

LB What does “family business” mean to you today?
OJ “Family business” today means building something lasting through love, trust, and shared purpose—whether you’re related by blood or bonded by values. It’s about sustainability in every sense: nurturing a legacy, supporting one another, and celebrating the fun times along the way. At Orloff Jewelers, it’s watching your family grow—not just at home, but within our team and community. Our incredible team is at the heart of this, made up of passionate individuals who care deeply about each other and the people we serve. Together, we’ve created a culture where everyone feels seen, valued, and invested in the future we’re building. That sense of belonging is what truly makes a business feel like family.

LB Orloff has been part of so many milestone moments in customers’ lives. Is there a particular story that stands out as emblematic of your purpose?
OJ A customer bought a 5-carat natural diamond, so eager to propose that he accidentally drove off with the ring on the roof of his car. We found it in the street, miraculously unharmed. That night, we treated the couple to dinner and champagne—she said yes! It was a moment of joy, relief, and love. Time and time again, we’re honored to be part of life’s most meaningful moments and to help create memories that last a lifetime.

LB Legacy often lives in the details. Are there specific traditions, design elements, or philosophies that have been passed down through the generations?
OJ At Orloff Jewelers, legacy lives in how we live our values—integrity, excellence, service, and community—every day. We lead by example, deliver exceptional jewelry and care, and treat every interaction with respect. Through mentorship and hands-on training, we pass down not just skills, but the deeper “why” behind our work. These daily actions ensure our philosophy is not just taught, but lived in every client experience, team relationship, and community connection for generations to come.

LB While celebrating this 70th Anniversary, what vision do you hold for the next chapter of Orloff Jewelers—and the next generation who may carry it forward?
OJ As we celebrate 70 years, our vision is to pass Orloff Jewelers on to the next generation—both within our family and among the emerging leaders who share our values. They are already playing an active role in the business, learning not just how to sustain it, but how to grow it with purpose, integrity, and heart. Just as important, they’re engaged in giving back to the community, understanding that true leadership is rooted in service. Our goal is to ensure Orloff’s legacy continues through individuals who lead with excellence and a deep respect for everything this company stands for.
